SCOPE compliance enhances interoperability
and hastens adoption of open architecture platforms by telecom
equipment makers
ATCA Summit Paris -- BOOTH #41
Paris, France. September 19, 2007 – Emerson
Network Power’s (NYSE: EMR) Embedded Computing business today
announced that it has joined the SCOPE Alliance as a Contributing
Member. Emerson also announced its first product to comply with
the SCOPE AdvancedMC port map gap analysis. The SCOPE-compliant
AdvancedTCA blade, known as the KAT4000S, is equipped with four
AdvancedMC sites.
As a SCOPE contributor, Emerson is working with other SCOPE members
to develop common usage profiles for AdvancedTCA, AdvancedMC and
MicroTCA that enhance interoperability, facilitate volume production
of modular components, expand the open architecture ecosystem,
and simplify integration for telecom equipment makers.
The SCOPE Alliance is an industry association aimed at accelerating
the deployment of Carrier Grade Base Platforms for service provider
applications. Its mission is to enable and promote the availability
of open Carrier Grade Base Platforms based on Commercial Off The
Shelf (COTS) hardware and software building blocks, and to promote
interoperability to better serve Service Providers and consumers.
SCOPE publishes common usage profiles for open architecture platforms
like AdvancedTCA, AdvancedMC and MicroTCA that foster interoperability
and address the technical requirements needed to integrate modular
blades, shelves and modules in an open architecture environment.
These profiles, in addition to facilitating interoperability, accelerate
widespread deployment by enabling hardware manufacturers like Emerson
to confidently make the investments needed to commercialize open
architecture boards and shelves, which are the foundation for carrier
grade base platforms.
“As a SCOPE Contributor and pioneer in the development
and early adoption of open standards like ATCA, AdvancedMC and
MicroTCA, we look forward to continuing our work with SCOPE to
develop common usage profiles that enhance interoperability and
make open systems more attractive to TEMs,” said Stuart Jamieson,
director of industry relations at Emerson. “We have already
taken the lead in implementing SCOPE’s ATCA and AdvancedMC
profiles, including the critical AdvancedMC port map needed to
support AdvancedMC’s multi-protocol capabilities in a consistent
fashion.”
“We’re pleased to welcome Emerson as a SCOPE contributor,
and appreciate the work they are doing to further the development
of common user profiles for emerging open architecture platforms
like ATCA, AdvancedMC, and MicroTCA” said Magnus Karlson,
Chairman of SCOPE Alliance. “We’re also pleased to
see Emerson move forward as an early adopter of the technology,
which we believe will hasten the adoption of open architecture
platforms among TEMs.”
The KAT4000S is a configurable ATCA blade that can accommodate
up to four AdvancedMC modules. The KAT4000S provides separate control/management
and data planes, each with its own independent switching capability
and ATCA fabric connection. The KAT4000S also features a PICMG 3.0
Intelligent Platform Management Interface. This interface, which
also extends to each AdvancedMC site, enhances system management
by making it easy for shelf management controllers to monitor, control
and exchange management with the KAT4000S and its AdvancedMC modules.
