New team will provide quick-turn
porting, test, certification, benchmarking, quality assurance and
other support services for MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition
running on Emerson’s telecom blades and systems
Madison, WI. June 11, 2007 –Emerson
Network Power’s (NYSE: EMR) new Embedded Computing business,
formerly Artesyn Communication Products, today announced that it
has commissioned a dedicated service and support team for MontaVista
Linux Carrier Grade Edition, the most widely deployed commercial
carrier Linux solution in the market today.
The new Emerson team will provide quick-turn MontaVista Linux
Carrier Grade Edition porting, testing, certification, support,
and quality assurance services for Emerson’s telecom blades
and systems, starting with its PowerPC-based KatanaQp AdvancedTCA
blades and PmPPC7448 ProcessorPMC modules.
“Linux is emerging as the dominant platform for high-availability
network infrastructure products, and we are committed to offering
equipment makers the finest carrier grade Linux solutions,” said
Kim Anderberg, vice president of marketing and product management
for Emerson’s new Embedded Computing business. “Our
new MontaVista support team will enable us to offer our customers
early access to the latest MontaVista Carrier Grade Edition releases,
optimized and preconfigured for Emerson’s telecom blades
and systems.”
“Enabling Emerson to deliver high-quality and highly optimized
Linux solutions is an effort MontaVista is committed to providing
its customers,” said
Jim Ready, CTO and founder of MontaVista Software. “Working
with Emerson will not only provide joint customers with a world-class
internal support group, but also an advanced and proven Linux distribution.
With MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition Emerson will enjoy
the time to market advantages of a proprietary development platform
and the developer control of an open source platform.”
Emerson’s
dedicated MontaVista team will forge a closer working relationship
with MontaVista that streamlines business processes and gives Emerson
and its customers access to the latest Carrier Grade Edition releases,
including bug fixes, security patches, and upgrades. The close
working relationship will also give Emerson early access to future
releases, enabling Emerson to evaluate new technology and formulate
more comprehensive roadmaps in parallel with processor vendors
who are porting future releases to new devices.
To further enhance customer designs, the Emerson team will be
available to port MontaVista Linux to new Emerson platforms, develop
device drivers, and perform benchmarking and optimization. The
team will also provide test and quality assurance services while
performing the work needed to make Emerson’s Linux development
available to the open source community. To further enhance customer
support, team members who perform the Linux ports will also provide
the support for those ports.
With MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition, customers enjoy advanced
hard real-time capabilities, unique clustering services, broad
ATCA hardware support, as well as the latest Eclipse-based integrated
development platform. MontaVista also contributes significantly
to the open source community by complying with the Service Availability
Forum (SA Forum), Application Interface Specifications for high
availability services and the Open Source Development Lab’s
(OSDL) requirements for Carrier Grade Linux 3.2.
The new Emerson
team will provide support for both MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade
Edition 3.1 and 4.0 for its blades and modules. Emerson customers
can purchase MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition directly from
MontaVista.
