New module provides high-speed protocol/packet processing, WAN
access, and signaling for AdvancedTCA blades, MicroTCA systems,
and custom carriers
Madison, WI. December 18, 2007 — Emerson
Network Power’s (NYSE: EMR) Embedded Computing business today
announced the KSI8560, a new Advanced Mezzanine Card for telecom
infrastructure applications. Combining a PowerQUICC III controller
with up to eight channelized E1/T1 spans, the new card provides
carrier-class, high-speed protocol and packet processing, signaling
and WAN access for MicroTCA systems, AdvancedTCA blades, and custom
carrier blades equipped with AdvancedMC sites.
“The KSI8560 combines high-speed processing, versatile WAN access, integrated
system management and a high-bandwidth switched fabric interface
in a flexible, easy to integrate AdvancedMC form factor,” said
Ben Sample, program manager at Emerson. “It also provides
high availability features such as dual flash banks and persistent
memory that help equipment makers achieve five nines or greater
up time. The KSI8560 should be very attractive to telecom equipment
providers who are looking to add carrier class packet processing,
protocol processing, network access, and signaling to their infrastructure
systems.”
The KSI8560 is equipped with Freescale’s
PowerQUICC III MPC8560. Utilizing a PowerPC Book E core running
at speeds of up to 1 GHz, the MPC8560 features a 333-MHz Communications
Processor Module (CPM) that integrates an Ethernet controller,
TDM ports for up to eight T1/E1 spans, ATM support, an I2C controller,
and a PCIe interconnect.
The KSI8560 also features up to 256 Mbytes
of SDRAM, 16 Mbytes of persistent memory (PSRAM), eight Mbytes
of NOR boot flash (for redundant 4-Mbyte devices), 1 Gbyte of NAND
flash for non-volatile RAM and True Flash File System storage,
and an additional 512 kbytes of socketed flash. The KSI8560 is
available in compact, mid-height, and full-size AdvancedMC form
factors. The KSI8560’s high-speed AdvancedMC interface combines
dual Gigabit Ethernet channels with a scalable PCIe fat pipe that
provides an aggregate bandwidth of up to 8 Gbit/sec. The KSI8560 also features an I2C-based Intelligent Platform Management Interface
(IPMI), which enables the module to be monitored and controlled
by remote shelf management controllers.
When equipped with Emerson’s
SpiderWare M3UA signaling software, the KSI8560 is
transformed into a scalable signaling gateway, which can provide
up to 128 SS7 channels with 100% line utilization in an ATCA environment.
This bundled solution demonstrates the true power of the KSI8560,
a flexible AMC that can be used for Signaling Transfer Points,
Service Control Points, Signaling Gateways, and Base Station Controllers
applications.
Operating system support for the KSI8560 includes a Linux support
package for Monta Vista Carrier Grade Edition 4.x and VxWorks 6.2.
The KSI8560 is RoHS/WEEE compliant. The KSI8560 also complies
with all major safety, EMC, and environmental standards, including
IEC60950/EN60950, UL60950, CSA C22.2, Global IEC - CB Scheme Report
IEC 60950, NEBS Telecordia GR-63, and GR1089 Level 3, FCC Part
15 (U.S. and Canada), and ETSI EN300386-V1.3.1. The KSI8560 will
be generally available during the first quarter of 2008.
